Top Ten New-To-Me Authors From 2020

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.

This week’s topic is “top ten new-to-me authors I read in 2020.” I picked up quite a few new authors last year, mostly thanks to Bookstagram, and here are 10 of the stand-out ones:

R.F. Kuang
After hearing everyone rave about The Poppy War for the last year, I finally decided to pick it up — and it definitely lived up to my high expectations.

Melissa Bashardoust
Girl, Serpent, Thorn came onto my radar because the gorgeous FairyLoot edition was all over Instagram, and I’m so glad I gave it a read. It was a beautifully-written fairytale filled with morally grey characters.

Talia Hibbert
Get a Life, Chloe Brown and Take a Hint, Dani Brown were two of my favourite romances that I read in 2020. Talia Hibbert is definitely on my must-read list.

Emma Lord
Emma is such a delight to follow on Twitter, so I knew I had to read her debut, Tweet Cute. It was an incredibly sweet and banter-filled read, and her follow-up, You Have a Match, was just as charming.

Casey McQuiston
Red, White & Royal Blue had been recommended to me so many times, but it took me almost a year to finally pick it up. It was a sweet, fluffy read, and I can’t wait to pick up her next release in June!

Adrienne Young
I received an ARC of Fable and finished it in one sitting. That cliffhanger ending left me wanting more, and I definitely plan to read her other titles while I wait for the sequel.

Emily St. John Mandel
Once they announced that Station Eleven was becoming a TV series starring Mackenzie Davis, I finally picked up the book, even though we were at the start of a pandemic like the one depicted on-page. It was beautifully-written, and I’ve already grabbed a copy of her newest release, The Glass Hotel.

Sarah Hogle
You Deserve Each Other was a very hyped debut and I laughed out loud at so much of the snark/banter. I will definitely read whatever she writes next.

Madeline Miller
Circe is a book that I found intimidating for so long, since everyone seemed to love it. While it fell flat for me, I enjoyed Madeline Miller’s storytelling enough that I look forward to picking up The Song of Achilles in the near future.

Janella Angeles
Where Dreams Descend was one of my most anticipated debuts of the year, and I adored it. I’m not-so-patiently waiting for the sequel, which is out this June.
