Top Ten 2019 Releases That I Need to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.

This week’s topic is “top ten bookish discoveries that I made in 2019.” I couldn’t think of 5 items that would fit this list, let alone 10, so I’m instead going to talk about the 2019 releases that I really need to read.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
I love royals and the enemies-to-lovers trope, so this sounds like such a delightful read. It’s been recommended to me by just about everyone, so I really need to pick it up soon!

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
I didn’t think I could love faerie books, but this dark series quickly proved me wrong. After the way that The Wicked King ended, I really need to see what happens next!

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
The Raven Boys is one of my favourite series of all-time, so I can’t wait to be immersed in that world once more.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
I love books about stories, especially when they involve books within books, so the synopsis for this immediately caught my attention. It reminds me a bit of The Starless Sea, which I adored, so I’m very excited to give it a read!

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
I haven’t read a fairytale retelling in quite some time. The reviews that I read for this one were so positive that I’m really curious to see what new additions it makes to the Beauty and the Beast story.

The Places I’ve Cried in Public by Holly Bourne
This sounds like a powerful, albeit heartbreaking, read about what makes a healthy relationship.

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokski
My ever-present desire to move back to France means that I will always pick up a book set there. I love the idea of a historical heist fantasy in Paris, so I can’t wait to see how that plays out.

The Secret Commonwealth by Phillip Pullman
His Dark Materials was one of my favourite series growing up, even if I didn’t fully understand the themes until I did a re-read as an adult. I liked La Belle Sauvage well enough, but wanted to see more of Lyra, so I can’t wait to see what she’s like as a 20 year old in this one!

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb
I’m a big advocate for going to therapy if you can afford to do so, as it has been tremendously eye-opening for me to go, myself. This sounds like an insightful read filled with empathy.

The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
I loved Truly Devious, but was quite surprised when its massive cliffhanger ending taught me that it wasn’t, in fact, a standalone. I have so many questions that I need answered, so I really have to read this soon!

Have you read any of these books? Are there any 2019 favourites that I need to add to my list? Let me know in the comments below.
