FAQs

I’ve received a few messages from readers asking me questions about myself and The In-Between Place. Since a few of the questions were asked on multiple occasions, I decided to answer them all in one post.

Why did you start blogging?
I love reading. I never travel anywhere without a book, and I’m always looking for recommendations. Unfortunately, a lot of my friends from school either don’t have time to read (which I don’t quite understand; there should always be time for books) or don’t enjoy reading, so my bookish rants and literary references are completely lost upon them. I was looking at reviews one day on Goodreads when I came across The Midnight Garden, which inspired me to create my own blog and share my opinions with people who are passionate about books.

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in May of this year, so I’m still really new to this whole blogging thing.

Why did you name your blog The In-Between Place?
I’ve always viewed a book as a sort of “in-between place” since it allows you to enter an imaginary world filled with action, adventure, romance, danger, etc. while still physically remaining in reality.

What do you do outside of blogging?
I’m a full-time student at the University of Waterloo in Canada. I’m a Biology major, and I get to start an animal physiology specialization this fall. I worked as a student library page throughout high school, though I’m hoping to one day become a veterinarian. When I’m not in school, I like to read, write, walk/bike along the trails, sing in a choir, and watch a lot of movies/tv shows.

What are your favourite tv shows?
Sherlock, Doctor Who, Merlin, Game of Thrones, Community, New Girl, LOST, Survivor, Hell’s KitchenMy to-watch list at the moment consists of Hannibal, Once Upon A Time (season 2), Suits, Misfits, Being Human, Supernatural (I’ve seen random episodes, but I’ve never watched it in order), Dexter (season 3 onwards)

Which Harry Potter house would you be sorted into?
When I first read the books, I wasn’t sure which house would be the best fit for me. The Sorting Hat on Pottermore had difficulty placing me, as well; I was a hatstall and was given a choice between Slytherin or Ravenclaw. I chose Slytherin, but I like to think of myself as a Slytherclaw.

How fast do you read?
I can usually read ~100 pages in an hour, though that changes depending on my level of interest, the complexity of the book, and the number of distractions that I have.

What is your favourite childhood book?
Harry Potter. My teacher read us the first book, and I immediately had my mom go out and buy me it so that she and I could read the series together as it came out. I have so many good memories associated with the series, my favourite of which involves my high school classmates, teachers, and I dressing up as the characters to see the movies on their opening nights.

What is your favourite reading snack?
I can usually visualize the book as I read, so I love to have popcorn on hand. It makes it feel like a movie, but without all of those pesky tall people sitting in front of you and blocking your view.

And that brings me to the end of the questions! If there’s anything else that you’d like to ask – whether it’s about me or books – feel free to send me a message or leave a comment below. : )
