Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.
This week’s topic is “top ten non-bookish hobbies” which is definitely one of the more difficult topics! I couldn’t quite come up with 10 hobbies, but here are a few things that I adore:
Thrifting
I’ve always loved visiting thrift stores. It’s so much fun to see the assortment of items there, and I could easily lose an entire day sifting through the racks, trying to find the perfect statement skirt.
Music & Concerts
I love music; I almost always have headphones in, spend a lot of time trying to find new/obscure artists to listen to, line up ridiculously early for Record Store Day and own way too many band tees. I live just down the street from two different music venues, and would go to 5+ shows/month in the Before Times.
Baking
I grew up making chocolate chip cookies on a near-weekly basis with my mom, so baking is a source of comfort and my favourite stress-reliever. If I ever won the lottery, I’d 100% open a combined bakery/record store.
Photography
I dated a photographer a few years ago, and while the relationship didn’t work out, my love for photography became stronger than ever. I enjoy taking photos of landscapes and interesting-looking buildings, and maybe one day I will be comfortable enough to try proper portrait photography.
Barre & Pilates
I started doing Blogilates in 2012 during my first year of undergrad, along with some barre classes that my school’s athletics department hosted. I’ve been doing these types of classes consistently ever since – they’re great ways to decompress and the end of a day, and I’ve made some wonderful friendships through them.
Travel
I was lucky enough to visit Europe in high school, and that kickstarted a desire to see everything, from provincial parks in Ontario to famous bookstores in Paris.
I was lucky enough to live in France for a semester (splitting time between Paris and Dijon), and I’m already counting down the days until I can visit again — or move there permanently, which would be a dream come true.
Puzzles
A Toronto maker designs custom puzzles to support local businesses, so I picked one up in March so that proceeds could go to my favourite music venue. And that got me hooked – I’ve since assembled an Alice in Wonderland-inspired 500-piece puzzle, and I put several gradient puzzles on my Christmas wishlist.
What are some of your favourite hobbies? Are there any that I should dive into?
Thrifting is a pretty cool hobby.

I love travel so much, definitely missing it! I also really love music, though I haven’t been to a concert in a while because they’re so expensive and I tend to go for theatre instead.

I love theatre, but don’t get to go nearly as much as I’d like! What was your favourite place to travel so far?

YES baking and thrifting! I wish I had space for puzzles in my apartment, but just about every surface I would use is covered with books instead!

I completely understand that! Most of my books are stored at my parents’ place, but I’ve definitely started stacking books on top of my finished puzzles since I’m running out of shelf space….

I always like seeing what I can find at thrift stores – sometimes you can find some real gems.
I do enjoy a good concert, but it sure feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been to one.
