Top Ten Witchy Books On My TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.

This week’s topic is a Halloween freebie. I used to read a lot of thrillers, and spent most of my early teens reading murder mysteries that my mom had purchased (and which creeped me out enough that I could only read them during the daylight hours). My reading taste has changed quite a bit since then; I don’t read many traditionally “spooky” books anymore, but I love books about witches. Here are 10 of the witchy books that I need to read.

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman
I haven’t watched the movie version of this yet, despite seeing it on all the Halloween roundups since I’m hoping to read the book first. My hold is ready for pickup at the library, so hopefully I can finish this before Halloween!

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik
A magic school overrun by monsters sounds like the perfect Halloweeny setting!

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
This has been described as “Knights of the Round Table meets Southern Black Girl Magic” and, honestly, that sounds like a pretty amazing combination.

The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska
First, that cover! Also, witch queens sacrificing men to keep their island from sinking? Very much a premise I’m into.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
A trans boy who summons (and may or may not fall in love with) a ghost? I need this in my life.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
I’ve seen so many glowing review for this, and somehow I didn’t realize until compiling this list that it involved a coven of witches. I also picked this up from the library this past week, so fingers crossed I get around to it soon!

The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco
A bone witch that can raise the dead is definitely a Halloween vibe. I enjoyed the first two books in the series, so I can’t wait to see how much more powerful (and dark) Tea becomes in this final instalment.

The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
This had me at witch suffragettes “turning the women’s movement into the witch’s movement.”

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalo
Absolutely intrigued by the idea of a quest for vengeance that unleashes Hell itself. This sounds like such a creepy, atmospheric read.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
I saw so much hype for this when it first came out, and I feel like it’s been on my TBR forever at this point. Now that more of the series has been released, I really should dive into it.

What are your favourite witchy books? Have you read any of the ones on my list?
