April: A Month’s Worth of Photos

My favourite photo from this month; for more, check out my Instagram (bookish + personal) 🙂

April was a really hectic month for me. I had 6 exams in 7 days (I want to say that I passed them all…. but I’m still waiting on one mark, which is incredibly stressful!) and continued volunteering in a synthetic biology lab.

I also had to say goodbye to my lovely housemates (left + centre above), as this was our last month living together — we’re not going to be living that far away from one another, but it’s going to be really weird living with other people!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get that much blogging done (aside from already-scheduled posts) but I did manage to read 7 books! (It’s truly the best form of procrastination).

Top Books of the Month:

I really don’t know why I waited so long to read Grave Mercy and Mistborn – they were both excellent, had kick-ass female characters, and excellent world-building. And The Start of Me and You was every bit as adorable as I had expected, complete with strong, supportive friendships and sweet book boyfriends.

I also realized just how many unread books I have on my bookshelf, so hopefully I’ll be able to give some of these a read!

Most Exciting Moment:

I went to see The Griswolds and WALK THE MOON for the Talking is Hard Tour and had such an amazing time! While I bought tickets because I adore The Griswolds, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked WALK THE MOON too – they had such an infectious energy to them, and I loved their positivity!

I also got to meet The Griswolds! They’re such sweethearts, told me that I have the coolest hair (even if it got destroyed by the pouring rain), and gave the best hugs. To say that it made my month is probably an understatement, so I’m really excited to see them again in June! <3

Song Obsessions:

Other Obsessions: Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 1.29.51 PM

  • Baking! I’ve always loved to bake, but procrastibaking reached new highs during this exam season.
  • I started watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and it’s safe to say I’m hooked. Even if I can’t look at Pinot Noir the same way…
  • Ukulele. I’ve been wanting to learn for ages, so I finally caved and bought one! I’m in love with my little red uke, even if I can only play Riptide by Vance Joy so far.
  • Parasitology. I know, that probably sounds really weird, but I took a course on parasites this past term and found it completely fascinating (even if it kind of scared me away from travelling to certain places).

Quote of the Month:

“I once read in my physics book that the universe begs to be observed, that energy travels and transfers when people pay attention. Maybe that’s what love really boils down to–having someone who cares enough to pay attention so that you’re encouraged to travel and transfer, to make your potential energy spark into kinetic energy.” – My Heart and Other Black Holes

What have you been up to this month? And what are you looking forward to in May? Let me know in the comments below.

  • Exams suck. I always tell myself I passed, but that’s not always the case, haha. Good luck to you though!

Yay, so glad you loved Grave Mercy! That book just had brilliant writing, a beautiful setting and some really kick-ass characters. 😉

No worries. I have probably 150-ish unread books on my shelves… Oops. Book hoarder problems right here.

So awesome that you’re getting into baking! I would love to try, but I’m afraid to make a mess of the kitchen. 😛

    • Thanks Aimee! 🙂

I was pretty sold on it as soon as I saw that it was about assassin nuns, and all of the political intrigue and plotting was super addictive. I just finished reading Mortal Heart today, and now I’m not sure what to do with my life, haha.
It’s always nice having really full bookshelves though!

Haha, aside from wearing cute aprons and actually eating the food, making a mess of the kitchen is one of the most fun parts! 😉

  • Wow, six exams in seven days, talk about pulling out all the stops. Hopefully you did well on that last one too! It sucks waiting to see grades.

Aw, it must be sad that you and your housemates had to say goodbye and leave.

I still need to read Grave Mercy and TSoMaY, I own both of them so it’s just a(n) (eventual) matter of time.

I have a RIDICULOUS amount of unread books. I have at least 100 books I’ve acquired since September that I HAVE NOT read…And that’s just physical *winces*.

I like a couple of Walk The Moon’s songs! I need to listen to more. It’s fun you got to see them and the other band. How did you like The Walled City.

I’m mostly looking forward to some books and albums by Brandon Flowers and Mumford & Sons. 🙂

I hope you have a good month!

    • Thank you! I’m definitely not patient enough to do this much waiting, haha.

You definitely need to give them a go – they’re two of my favourite reads of the year! 🙂 Whoa, your bookshelves must look amazing with all of those books!

I had just started reading The Walled City when my hold on Grave Mercy came in, so it quickly got abandoned. I’m planning on picking it up again soon though!

Brandon Flowers’ album is one of my more anticipated ones too! What did you think of Wilder Mind?!

      • You’re welcome!

I will, sometime. 🙂 I’ve heard they’re both really good. Bookshelves. Hahaha. All my books are scattered, though yes, I do have some on a bookshelf. 🙂 And it does look great.

Oh okay! 🙂 I found that book so addicting.

I still need to hear Brandon’s newest song out! I haven’t listened to Wilder Mind all the way through yet, so as it stands. Believe is still my favorite track from the album. 🙂
