Five Reasons to Read Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce

Today I’m excited to be taking part in TBR & Beyond Tours‘ blog tour for Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce! To follow along with the tour, check out the full schedule here.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

After a horrifying public rejection by her crush, Ellie Nichols does what any girl would do: she flees the country. To be more precise, she joins her high school’s study abroad trip to England. While most of her classmates are there to take honors courses and pad their college applications, Ellie is on a quest to rebuild her reputation and self-confidence. And nothing is more of a confidence booster than getting a hot British boyfriend. When Ellie meets Will, a gorgeous and charming Brit, she vows to avoid making the same mistakes as she did with the last guy she liked. Which is why she strikes up a bargain with Dev, an overachieving classmate who she’s never clicked with, but who does seem to know a lot about the things Will is interested in—if he helps her win over her crush, then she’ll help him win over his.But even as Ellie embarks on a whirlwind romance, one that takes her on adventures to some of England’s most beautiful places, she still needs to figure out if this is actually the answer to all her problems… and whether the perfect boyfriend is actually the perfect boy for her.

If you loved Anna and the French Kiss and are looking for another sweet contemporary romance set abroad, then Hot British Boyfriend may be the perfect book for you! Here are 5 reasons why you should add it to your TBR:

The Armchair Travel
I’ve always wanted to go to England. I was supposed to go in 2020 for the first time, but since travel isn’t recommended right now, taking in the sights and sounds from the safety and comfort of my couch was the next best option. While a good portion of Hot British Boyfriend takes place at school, Ellie and her friends go on trips to London, Bath, and even Venice!

It’s Relatable
I often laugh at how dramatic I was in high school – everything felt so high-stakes and even the slightest inconvenience felt like it was world-ending. So when Ellie was rejected in an embarrassingly public way and decided to flee the country, I completely related to it. After all, who hasn’t wanted an opportunity to reinvent themselves?

The Relationships
The side characters in Hot British Boyfriend were delightful, and they all had such distinct, vibrant personalities. I especially enjoyed watching Ellie and her roommate, Sage, become friends; on paper, they couldn’t be more different, but a shared love of pretty stationery is the catalyst to a truly supportive friendship.

Fairy Gardens
I had never heard of a fairy garden before reading Hot British Boyfriend, but now I absolutely need to see one in person. It’s such a fun, whimsical, and unique hobby for Ellie to have, and I loved how it was a driving force for key moments throughout the story (including the meet-cute with Will).

Ultimately, Hot British Boyfriend is about embracing who you are.
At the start of Hot British Boyfriend, Ellie is desperate to show that she is doing Absolutely Fine after the very public rejection. She gets caught up in finding validation through Instagram likes, and completely changes her interests just to keep the attention of a very attractive British boy. After making a few mistakes and receiving some very solid advice from her friends, she learns to recognize her own self-worth and to embrace what makes her different.
