Top Ten Books I Hope To Find Under My Tree

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.

This week’s topic is “top ten books I hope to find under my tree.” I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already! December feels like it just flew by. I didn’t do a whole lot of reading this year since I was finishing up my last year of post-graduate studies – I only managed to read a total of 26 books. As a result, there are a lot of books that I’d like to get for Christmas; here are just 10 of those.

Shiny 2019 Releases

  1. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
I do already own the beautiful hardcover copy that Doubleday Canada put out (which I managed to get signed!) and I have already read it twice since it was released… but I also desperately need the UK hardcover. It’s just so pretty!
  2. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater
I loved The Raven Boys and had so many questions when the series ended, so I am very excited to pick this one up! I love Ronan and love the idea of Dreamers and can’t wait to be back in that magical, enchanting world.
  3. Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators by Ronan Farrow
2019 was the year that I got into non-fiction, and with it also being the year that women’s’ voices were taken seriously in the #MeToo movement, this book is one that I need to read.
  4. 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne
This was on my most-anticipated list for 2019 because of how much I loved The Hating Game, and I, unfortunately, didn’t get around to reading it. What better way to ring in the New Year than with a swoony, cozy read?
  5. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
I waited until early November to start reading this series – I was hesitant, at first, because it had been ages since I read anything about faeries, but I was immediately hooked by the dark and fast-paced tale. I need to know what happens next!

Beautiful Backlist Titles

  1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
Do I already own the paperback copy that Anchor Canada published? Yes. Have I read it 2325920 times? Also, yes. I’ve been eyeing the other cover editions, though, and considering this is one of my all-time favourites, I really do need to start that collection.
  2. Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
I’ve heard so much about this book – from my classmates to Barack Obama. It’s made so many “must-read” lists that I really need to pick up a copy!
  3. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
I haven’t read this one yet, even though it’s a classic and I fully intend to see the movie this winter. The Puffin Classics cover is so darling that I need a copy for my shelves.
  4. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
I’ve heard this touted as one of the most underrated YA high fantasy novels, and once I learned that it was about assassins, I was immediately sold on the premise.
  5. Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore
I just discovered her writing last year through When the Moon Was Ours, and it’s easily some of the most gorgeous, lyrical prose I’ve encountered. Wild Beauty is the last one of the currently-released titles that I haven’t read yet.

What books do you hope to find under your Christmas tree this year? Have you read any of the ones on my list? Let me know in the comments below.
