Wait, It’s Not A Standalone?

When a lot of my friends joke about how my to-read list is longer than a combined list of books they’ve read, I like to blame it on one simple fact: everything nowadays seems to be a series. There have been so many occasions when I would finish a book and be incredibly satisfied with the ending, only to discover that two (or three… or even five) more books would be following it. That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy series – in fact, there are several sequels that I’m impatiently waiting for – however, with all of the series that I’ve started, it’s been rather difficult to catch up or even complete many of them.

Out of curiosity, I counted the number of series that I’ve actually completed (an astonishing 43), and now I’ve decided to compile a list of the series I’ve started and need to finish. Here are the results:

Hopefully this will inspire me to cross some of these series off of my list — and if there are any that I should start with, please let me know!

  • There are so many series because series are popular. And yes, sometimes it’s a hassle that there are so many. You feel like you can never get through them all — and realistically, you can’t get through them all. 🙁

    • That’s true – after all, they do allow readers to go on a lot of different adventures with their favourite characters in a way that standalones don’t. Strangely enough, I thought about that the other day – I looked at my to-read list and how quickly it has grown in the ~9 months I’ve been blogging, and realized that I’ll never be able to read them all. It’s kind of a scary thought!

      • It is. But that’s how reading works. Every year, there are more books, and every year, your to-read list gets longer. Although, I mean, compared to the alternative — not enough books — I suppose we’re in a good place. 🙂

  • If you liked Mortal Instruments – then Infernal Devices (Clare as well),
or Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
I also enjoyed Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien – it’s a little like Divergent or Hunger Games
you didn’t include the series that are finished and you read them…so you may have already tackled these ones :o)

    • I loved The Infernal Devices! It’s on my list of series that I will (hopefully) have time to re-read at some point, even though Clockwork Princess will break my heart again.

I really enjoyed Divergent and The Hunger Games, so I’ll definitely have to give Birthmarked a read! (:

  • Oh yes, I have a lot of series on my tbr/shelves too. I have yet to read Scarlet and Cress too, and haven’t even started Shatter Me. I’ve read the both The Selection and The Elite and am caught up on Penryn & the End of Days and the Sweet Trilogy though, and only have one book left from the Gone series.

Good luck with tackling your PILE! 🙂

    • I’m so glad I’m not the only one that hasn’t started Scarlet yet – everyone seems to be reading (and loving) Cress, so I feel like I definitely need to get back to that series soon.

Thanks! Good luck to you too, and happy reading! 🙂
