Friday Finds is a weekly event hosted by Should Be Reading, where you discuss books that you’ve discovered and added to your to-read list over the course of the week. These books don’t have to be ones that you’ve purchased – they can be books that you’ve borrowed, found online, heard about from a friend, etc.
As always, if you’re interested in reading more about one of these books, click on the picture and you’ll be taken to its Goodreads page.
Predicted to be the next J.K. Rowling, Samantha Shannon was offered a six-figure deal for the first three books in a series of seven – and she’s only 21 years old. That pretty much makes this a must-read.
Fatal allergies to sunlight, and a mystery surrounding a suicide? This certainly sounds like an intriguing read. And it has such a nice cover!
I’ll admit that the ugly Christmas sweater on the cover (which I kind of want) drew me in. I haven’t read a good YA murder mystery/thriller in a while, and the fact that it happens in a small town called Friendship makes it sound even better.
I love fairytale retellings, so I think that the idea of a sci-fi Sleeping Beauty tale sounds pretty neat!
It had me at the words “Irish exchange student and brilliant musician.” Though the gorgeous cover certainly helps.
What books did you find this week? Leave me a list of your finds or a link to your post in the comments below! : )
A Long, Long Sleep is pretty good. I’m pretty sure she’s writing a sequel, as it ended pretty openly. (How many times can someone say ‘pretty’ in a comment? I win). Hope you like it 😀
I’m never sure how to feel about open endings, so I hope there’s a sequel. Haha, if I had a gold star, I’d give it to you, but I’m all out at the moment. Thanks, I hope so too! : )
She is writing a sequel 😀
Yay for gold stars, haha.
Ooh, yay! I’ll have to start reading this soon, then! 😀
Woohoo! I shall keep an eye out for a review 😀
The Bone Season! Let me just tell you that it was amazing. It’s nothing close to Harry Potter, of course, but it’s still a great fantasy read. I hadn’t heard of What We Lost in the Dark before now, so thanks for putting that one on my radar. It sounds just like my kind of book.
All the books you shared have pretty covers. 😉 Hope you get the chance to read them!
It looks so good, so I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks! I have a weakness for books with pretty covers – I just want to buy them all and put them out on display. 🙂
I’ve pre-ordered The Bone Season, and I am ridiculously excited about it. The wait is only til Aug 31, but it seems too long.
I’m so tempted to pre-order it. My library has placed it on order, so I may just end up borrowing it, if I can wait long enough for it to get to me. I completely agree – waiting for books to be released, especially ones that look this good, is kind of the worst.
