Saturday Showcase is a weekly event hosted here at The In-Between Place which features books that you wish more people had read (or, at least, heard about).
This week’s featured book is Entwined by Heather Dixon.
Azalea is trapped. Just when she should feel that everything is before her… beautiful gowns, dashing suitors, balls filled with dancing… it’s taken away. All of it.
The Keeper understands. He’s trapped, too, held for centuries within the walls of the palace. And so he extends an invitation.
Every night, Azalea and her eleven sisters may step through the enchanted passage in their room to dance in his silver forest.
But there is a cost.
The Keeper likes to keep things.
Azalea may not realize how tangled she is in his web until it is too late.
Entwined is one of my favourite fairytale retellings, despite the fact that I’ve never actually read The Twelve Dancing Princesses. It’s filled with magic, secrets, adorable romance, well-developed characters and, as an added bonus, a gorgeous cover.
What are some of your favourite underrated books? Leave a list in the comments below.
I read this book last year and I can remember really liking it.. good choice! I think that my favorite most underrated book would have to be Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. I have read it several times and each time I fall more and more in love with it, but I don’t know many other people who have even heard of it, never mind people who have read it.
I’m glad you liked it! I haven’t actually gotten around to reading Jellicoe Road yet — I’ve heard wonderful things about it (and the rest of Marchetta’s works) though, so I’ll have to bump it up on my to-read list. : )
This is the one I meant to comment on. Sorry. But still, I like this.
I’ve added this book to my read list.
Oh, no worries! It definitely has a darker feel to it than most fairytale retellings. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks 🙂
Agreed! I love the original tale, but the dark, twisted spin from this book is perfect. It’s my favourite retelling from The twelve dancing princesses and I read quite some retellings 😀
I always love the darker fairy tales for some reason. The only other retelling that I’ve heard of is Princess of the Midnight Ball, but I think I’ll give it a go after reading the original tale first. : )
I liked this one! I kind of want to reread it sometime!
I’m glad you liked it! It’s definitely on my list of books to eventually reread… if I ever find the time!
