Top Ten Binge-Worthy TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she posts an idea relating to books and encourages other book bloggers to respond with their own top ten lists.

This week’s topic is “top ten binge-worthy TV shows/amazing movies.” I just got Netflix this year so it’s safe to say that this is a topic I’ve had a bit too much experience with as of late. Here are some of my favourites, in no particular order:

Hannibal

I’ve seen every Hannibal episode at least three times now and they still manage to make me jump (though I’ve gotten a bit wiser and tend to do my re-watches with other people so as not to creep me out too much). It’s such a well-written and addictive show.

Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin is, in my humble opinion, the best TV show on the air right now. It touches on a number of relevant issues, from immigration to religion, places emphasis on the importance of family, and has everything from swoony romance to murder mysteries. It’s poignant and enchanting and I can’t recommend it enough.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

I first watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine shortly after it was revived by NBC and was ashamed of myself for not giving it a try earlier. I fell in love not even 5 minutes into the first episode and flew through the series in a couple of weeks – it would have taken me less time, except I had to stop watching on days that I had scheduled ab workouts because all of the laughing hurt too much.

Black Mirror

This cautionary tale about future technology is intriguing and, at times, terrifying. I had to take a few hours between each episode to digest all of the content and sort out my feelings about the technology – it made me critically think about where society was heading.

The Mindy Project

I’ve said before how much I want Mindy Kaling to be my friend, and that also extends to her fictional persona of Mindy Lahiri.

Parks and Rec

Leslie Knope is my absolute favourite. That is all.

Nailed It!

I consider myself to be a pretty good baker and love looking at incredibly intricate cake designs on Instagram. I have yet to work up the courage to attempt these designs myself, however, which is why Nailed It! is so much fun – it takes amateur bakers and challenges them to make these masterpieces, complete with plenty of entertaining mistakes.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Finally, a book-to-movie(ish) adaptation! A Series of Unfortunate Events was one of my favourite childhood reads and the show is incredibly faithful to the books. It’s also incredibly aesthetic, like something that Wes Anderson would direct.

The Crown

The Crown combines everything I love: history, the British monarchy, and Matt Smith. I found myself Googling the events of each episode as I watched because I wanted to know how many liberties were taken and whether or not any of the drama was embellished.

Westworld

Though I didn’t love the second season (excepting Maeve’s storyline, of course), Westworld‘s twists and turns made me dread the fact that I had to wait one full week until I could get answers.

What are some of your favourite TV shows? Are there any new releases that I should add to my Netflix watchlist? Leave me a list or a link to your TTT post below.
